Advisor Style & Mentorship

Literally no mentorship during postdoc or PhD training. Before you get into his group, he shows nice face in the rotation. Once you get into his group, the first week he asks about your goal in the future. If you say you want to be a professor, he will delay your publication because you'll be under control. Same, if you say you want to get into industry, he'll say he has the right to write any kind of recommendation letter. His emotion is sometimes unstable, and always freaks out the students in his group. So far as I know, 4 PhD students quit from his group even before the first PhD student graduation.

Expectations for PhD Students

He likes PhD students who listen to him no matter what. So he will pick the a student to be 'butler' and have private talks about each student's performance and behavior in the lab. You'll feel spied sometimes because he knows what you're doing every day.

Funding & Support

Funding is good honestly. No worry on the funding support.

Not really good. Check his publication and citation here. Not many citations or papers. https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=zOMUhtwAAAAJ

Lab Culture

Negative. Everyone feels spied and don't trust each other.

Additional Information

He has bad relationship with other professors in the department, because he always said bad words in their back.

No, I don't recommend this PI.
